Qwa Qwa – Maluti a Phofung (MAP) Executive Mayor Cllr Gilbert Mokotso, Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Community Service Cllr Matshediso Tsoeu alongside and different government stakeholders from the Health Care Industry, Social Development, Education and the Home Affairs Department on Friday the 28th, donated more than 30 school shoes to pupils at Majara Intermediate School in Makgalaneng Village.
The collaborative move was an initiative project between MAP and local stakeholders which aims to assist schools to deal with their socio economic background in a way that creates convenient solutions such as donating school shoes and uniforms to less privileged children. “This initiative is aligned with helping those in dire need for basic services and also a clean-up campaign encouraging all residents to take pride in their environment and community,” said the Executive Mayor. Schools children from Tabola, Mamosa, Koali, Lekgulo and Dithotaneng were amongst those who received school shoes. MMC Tsoeu stated that the local government have no chance of changing the living conditions of the society on their own, as she elleborated “this is an example of what can be achieved when the private and public sectors work together for the benefit of the community upliftment because when you have shoes, you have pride”. She also said that government should promote a culture of morality to ensure that MAP becomes one of those municipalities who take a stand and look after their own children.
Eleven years old Mokhosi Teboho of Tabola primary was incredibly excited to have received the pair of shoes “Ke thabile haholo hore lenna kajeno Mokhanselara waka o ntheketse dieta, jwale se ketlo tshwana le bana ba bang ka phapusing yaka” he expounded.
