    On Friday the 17th of August 2018 the Executive Mayor of Maluti a Phofung (MAP) Cllr Gilbert Mokotso accompanied by Members of Mayoral Committee (MMCs) and Councillors fulfilled a commitement they had recently made this month by celebrating the birthday of five senior citizens whom are members of Marematlou Luncheon Club located in Makhaleneng Village, Qwa Qwa.

    The objective of the gathering was to enlighten the community that luncheon clubs still exists within the spheres of MAP and have raised their hands to the municipality’s department of local economic development to say that they can do more than just exercising or cooking but also exhibit talent such a knitting, crouching, sewing and materials that can be sold to generate income. Motsima explained with gratitude the achievements of their luncheon club as well as the collective leadership’s dignifying visit to the occasion, “Tsatsi la kajeno kela hore retla thaba ha mmoho le bo nkgono ba rona ba bahlano ba ketekang matsatsi a bona a tswalo kwano mokgatlong ona wa rona, re thabetse le boteng ba Majoro le moifo wa hae mme sena sere entse rele ba hlomphehilng haholo setjhabeng”. She further recognize in a symbolic gesture the Executive Mayor as she presented a gift of a hat and mat to him as an approach to get assisted with marketing their within the platforms of Maluti A Phofung and also to transfer the skills to the younger generation.

    The Executive Mayor in his speech acknowledged the importance of working together with the elderly as they always stick to the truth no matter the circumstances around them and are more knowledgeable to counsel local government to transform the lives of the people and not project an image of an element of caring when the elections draw by the day.“Re lokela ho ela hlooko ntlha ya ho ananela leho hlokomela maqheku a rona hobane ke bona batho bantseng ba dutsi nneteng nakong ena eo lefatshe le feto-fetohang hangata. Ke thabetse leha ke bona Bonkgono ba ikopantse ho sebedisana mmoho hore hobe le moo bao etsang nakong eo boholo releng mesebetsing”, reiterated Cllr Mokotso. He further gave two other local corporatives certificates of registration for their companies to go and work hard in their respective areas. He added with a smile that the municipality has been extending generosity to the senior citizens by giving blankets as the token of appreciation during this women’s month, other gifts would also be delivered to Makhalaneng residents.

    Me Victoria Mohapi was among those who celebrated their birthday whom in great delight exclaimed, “kannete ke bona re hlonolofetse haholo hore ebe re keteka mmoho le Majoro wa rona le basebetsi mmoho, ke thabile haholo ebile kere ketlo motshehetsa Majoro enwa wa rona”. The elderly were afforded the opportunity to wine and dine with the Mayor after cutting their big birthday cake to celebrate the years that they say youth of today will unlikely to reach if they do not change their attitude.
